Toby TigerHeart Grear: Martial Arts/Fitness Training History...in the making

At the age of ten he began his martial arts education as a student of Judo in Lima, Ohio at the YMCA. Judo involves techniques that allow you to lift and throw your opponents onto their backs as well as allow you to pin your opponents down to the ground and control them.

Following Judo was a long and in depth study of the philosophies and techniques of Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do philosophies and techniques aim to strengthen both the mental and physical elements of a martial artist. Toby also has spent time in Thailand studying the origins and training techniques of the ancient art of muay Thai (Thaiboxing) with some of Thailand greatest fighters.

Toby considers himself the protégé of Robert Sheely and has been a competing fighter and student of muay Thai Kickboxing since the age of 20. Toby has gained valuable insights into real life combat during his time in and out of the ring.

"As a trainer I hope to instill healthy and effective workout habits in people of all sexes, races, and ethnicity while sharing valuable self-defense techniques to arm people with some basic tools to help them react to and avoid dangerous situations" -Toby

My life is simple, my food is plain, and my quarters are uncluttered. In all things, I have sought clarity. I face the troubles and problems of life and death willingly. Virtue, integrity and courage are my priorities. I can be approached, but never pushed; befriended, but never coerced; killed, but never shamed. Admiral Yi Sun Shin --- 1545-1598

Toby “TigerHeart” Grear is from Lima, Ohio, your typical small rural Midwestern town with a population of around 35,000. He was the second of three boys, all built like sycamore trees. In Lima, a boy who doesn't play sports in his spare time has to get a job, so, naturally, the brothers became fanatical athletes. At his Catholic high school, Toby ran track, was captain of the swim team, and competed on the football team which held Mass before every game, with players in full pads and uniform. As a freshman in 1999, he walked on to the University of Dayton Water Polo team and competed for two years. In the winter of 2000, midway through the University of Dayton, he yearned for a new sport. He flipped through the yellow pages, landing in the M's, in "Martial Arts." He cut class and made it to his first Muay Thai Class. In 2003, after earning his Bachelor of Science majoring in Marketing with a minor in Psychology, he moved to Downtown Los Angeles and fulfilled his life long dream of working for the most well known advertising agency in the world, Chiat/Day near Venice, CA. In 2004 True Warrior Fitness, LLC was created and Toby has since been working diligently to build the “True Warrior” brand. Now over 5 years after originally coming to L.A. Toby Currently resides and trains in Hollywood, California with his fiancé Roxy Richardson. He is the current Total Fighting Alliance World Lightweight Champion in Mixed Martial Arts.
